Marcello, aged 10, has an emigrant Italian father that hopes he will become a soccer champion. His mother, a Swede enamoured of Italy and a practicing Catholic, wants him to be a priest. Marcello sings off key in the church choir and never scores a goal. He has one passion: flying. But… he suffers from vertigo.
