Leaving Bolivia, Freddy also leaves behind what was most important to him, his family. He has gone to Buenos Aires, hoping to find a good job and then have his family join him. But the Argentine capital proves to be much less welcoming than expected. In fact, after the financial crisis, Buenos Aires is no longer a rich and warmhearted town in which to realize ones dreams. Freddy has to content himself with working illegally in the kitchens of little restaurants, trying to gain respect so he won’t lose the job but also trying to disappear when the police arrive. Midway between documentary and fiction, shot in black and white with no concession to entertainment, Caetano portrays the wretched existence of many illegal laborers coming from the countryside. |
