Sixteen state television networks contributed to creating these 16 portraits of young people, each with his/her own desires, problems, and hopes for the future. The European Broadcasting Union, EBU (Unione Europea di Radiotelevisione, UER), with headquarters in Geneva, and Televisione Svizzera Italiana (TSI), have enabled us to show a number of them that we consider especially interesting and linked to the themes Castellinaria presents in this edition.
KART 26 TSI presents a film by Mohammed Soudani – 15’ Gianluca is 12. Like all kids his age, after school he has various pastimes: he plays soccer and rides his bike. But what he really loves are go-carts, especially racing them. But Gianluca is special: he almost always wins. He’s “cool and clean”, the experts say. Now he’s growing up and realizing that his results aren’t casual. With his joyful, humble yet determined character and his numerous wins, Gianluca proves he is a kid with great talent. Will he be the next Schumacher? In any case, as his father says, Gianluca will be free to choose and perhaps one day will follow another road. What’s important is to live his passion to the full. THE JIBBER SVT (Swedish Television) presents a film by Maria Johansson – 15’ Blayze is a boy whose life has changed since he fell in love with a special sport: jibbing. What is it? He himself explains: “It’s when you ski up a small ramp or bump and then go over a hollow. You can do pirouettes and jump.” WAR CHANGES EVERYTHING
TRT (Turkish Television) presents a film by Asim Süreyya Üvez – 15’ What happens in the life of a small community and to a boy if, from one day to the next, the border between his country (Turkey) and Iraq becomes a possible war zone? Everything changes, as the protagonist of this brief documentary tells us. FIRST TIME AT THE SEA HRT (Croatian Television) presents a film written and directed by Leda Festini – 15’ Some people haven’t seen the sea because they’re not interested, others because they haven’t had the chance. The two young gypsies featured in this documentary enjoy an intensely felt experience: their first time at the sea. READY...OR NOT
RTE (Irish Television) presents a film directed and produced by Leda Tønseth – 15’ A 9-year-old girl leaves South Africa to live in Ireland, because her parents fear post-apartheid violence. She has to face a completely new life but one rich in memories of Africa. |
