Eighteen-year-old Joy doesn’t know who her birth mother is. She was abandoned as a newborn and grew up in various orphanages. Her life is hard and Joy suffers the lack of family ties. Her friend Moumou tries to understand her but at bottom Joy’s state of mind and problems are beyond him since he comes from a big family and can’t conceive of Joy’s existential solitude. Instead, the girl is profoundly convinced that she will never be truly happy until she and her mother are reunited. When she learns that Denise, her best friend, is expecting a baby, her conviction becomes an obsession. She manages to get the address of her mother, who lives quite far away, and travels there on a bus. When she discovers her with a daughter she doesn’t dare approach her. She repeats her attempts. Will she one day manage to get a little closer to her mother? |
