Hermann Simon's daughter, Lulu, with whom Heimat 3 ended, revisits the places dear to the family, pondering the meaning of time and remembrance. This brings in shots and situations not shown in the three preceding series and puts particular stress on the role that women have played in Hermann's life. And so we again see grand-mother Maria, Lulu's mother, Claerchen, and the female companions that the protagonist has had by his side through time, obviously including Clarissa. This is a review of the entire series, not motivated by any sort of concluding celebration but by the desire to work on what was “unseen” in the three series, attempting to find continuity between Hermann's past and the future awaiting Lulu. |
