Paolo Buratti is one of Dr. Vincenzo’s three children. The bombardment of Rome forces them to seek shelter in their grandfather’s house in the country and Paolo and his brothers watch the war come closer and closer. Paolo in particular is uneasy about his father’s ban on participating in Balilla training, which might cut him off him from his new schoolmates. The September 8th armistice will be full of consequences for Italy and the Buratti family, which will be involved in the struggle against Nazi occupation. Reaching adulthood, Paolo cannot forget the small and big deeds that marked his growth during those years of turmoil. |
