New York. Manhattan. Gabe is an eleven-year-old whose parents are, as they say, “separated under the same roof”, squabbling over every item in their home, even what's in the refigerator. For Gabe this is a turning-point time: the period of total distance from his peers is superceded by his first infatuation. This is with Rosemary, whom he knew as a child and has now reencountered at karate lessons. From this moment on things change for Gabe. Rosemary is at one and the same time his accomplice in searching for a new apartment for his father and far beyond him athletically, taken up with other partners in the gym. But the two kids' story continues, amidst preteen games, the first heart-flutterings and petty jealousies. Will it have a happy ending? |
