Fourteen-year-old Alicja enters a new middle-school class. She is a wise and prudent girl who finds herself up against a group of arrogant classmates decked out in the latest fashions and accessories. In the beginning these girls make her life impossible, snubbing her and sneering at her. Alicja later finds out how they manage to have such luxuries and be so trendy: after school, in fact, they frequent malls where customers choose and buy the glittering objects in the showcases and where they can meet young men who “sponsor them”.
