MONSIEUR BATIGNOLE

In 1942, during the Nazi occupation in France, butcher Edmond is trying to keep his distance from what’s going on but finds himself forced to make a specific choice when he meets Simon, a twelve-year-old Jewish boy who, being alone after his family’s deportation, is hoping to find refuge in Switzerland. Edmond feels it his duty to help the boy because, as the director and protagonist of the film states, courage often comes from “putting oneself under obligation”. Edmund finds himself facing formerly unthinkable risks to save Simon and two Jewish girls.
