After seven years in prison for homicide and armed robbery, Oso gets paroled. By now his wife, Natalia, and daughter, Alicia, are living with Sergio, out of work and a bettor on the horses. At first Oso hopes to win back their affections, then resigns himself to helping them but first he has to overcome his tactlessness and violent rages. When “the Turk”, a neighborhood gangster, proposes another robbery, he realizes that the only way he can ensure his daughter’s future is to act outside the law. Un oso rojo is a disenchanted urban western telling the tale of a marginal gunslinger against the background of the harsh reality of the hinterland: a car is thus the horse, Turk’s bar is the saloon and his daughter’s smile the lonely cowboy’s only reward. |
