It’s 1962, in the spring before the summer in which French colonial domination of Algeria will end. In this autobiographical film Ali (the director) is an 11-year-old boy who sells newspapers door to door. His world is made up of exploding bombs and racial discrimination. He was told that his father is working in France but instead hÈs part of the resistance. Whoever is on that side risks the firing squad, as often happens. However, there are cinemas, where Ali watches films over and over, and his best friend Nico. Nico is French but, aside from their occasional fights, Ali hopes he will never leave.
