DÔLÉ

2000

The story takes place in Libreville, capital of Gabon, where Mougler and his teen friends live. Mougler and his friends are left to their own resources, besides he needs money to buy medicines for his ill mother. All of them are fond of rap music, which has become a symbol of youth protest in the city. The gang lives on small daily thefts, but to face his poverty, Mouglar is planning a more ambitious robbery: to clean out the “Dôlé” stall, the national lottery that everyone in town dreams to win. But the stall is well watched over by an armed man who is also in love with the careful stall keeper…. The film, played by non-professional actors, represents an urban youth common to many African cities, but not only, with a style poised between seriousness and casualness.
