Twelve-year-old Saslaya and his mute little brother Dario live with their grandmother on the outskirts of Managua, Nicaragua. Like many other children they try to survive by rummaging through trash. Like many other children they were abandoned by their mother, who left to seek work in Costa Rica and hasn’t been heard from for eight years.
When the two kids decide to go and search for her they gather their few belongings together and set out on a long journey taking them over lakes and forests…
During their odyssey they find themselves in extremely dangerous situations and meet up with different people, each one stranger than the last…
