Even if he’s only ten, he has to take care of himself and his little brother, Manuel, because his mother, single, works during the day and is often out at night. There is no father to take care of them. One day Manuel scalds himself with boiling water and Jack is blamed for it. Social workers intervene and decide that one of the two boys must be taken from their mother. Jack is put in an orphanage, from which he will do anything to escape and join his brother, with Manuel going to search for their mother and encountering adults that will help and others that are indifferent to their pleas. In the end Jack will make a very important decision.
