After Pippi Longstocking, Karlsson is Astrid Lindgren’s most famous character. The story unfolds in Stockholm, home to Lillebror, a lonely seven-year-old boy. His brother and sister are adolescents and live their own lives and Lillebror has no one to play with. One day, literally falling from heaven, appears a fat little man who introduces himself as “the biggest Karlsson in the world”. This strange person says he lives on the roof and, as if that were not enough, he has a propeller on his back and can fly! Everybody thinks that Lillebror is making Karlsson up, since he curiously disappears each time he is about to be presented to the family. With his selfish conduct, lack of self-confidence and mischief making, Karlsson brings some excitement to Lillebror’s life.
