KIRIKOU ET LA SORCIÈRE

1998

“The idea for the film came from a West African story that I read some years ago. The beginning of the tale and its story line inspired something in me and I immediately thought about making it into a film. Right at the start of the film a baby is talking inside his mother’s womb, asking to be born. His mother replies with such certainty that the baby is born by himself. Later, unlike the other inhabitants of the village, he defies the witch instead of submitting to her authority and supernatural strength and being afraid of her”. (Ocelot)
