The United States post-9/11. Paul, a former marine, is obsessed with the idea of defending “the land of the free” and sees Al Qaeda conspiracies everywhere; he tries to trace them down with the technological means available to him. Lana is a young idealist who has lived in Africa and Europe. Her Christian faith doesn’t gibe with President Bush’s and she is more interested in the thousands of poor people crowding the streets of Los Angeles. Paul’s certainties as self-proclaimed defender of American security began to crack when he meets the girl, who is a niece he had forgotten about. Paul reluctantly accepts her presence but the day they both witness the murder of a homeless Middle Eastern person they decide to investigate together.
