Michiel Brugman is walking on the beach in the town of Zandwijk, when he suddenly sees a pirate ship in his binoculars. A moment later it’s disappeared, and Michiel tells himself that nothing else will happen, because nothing ever happens in Zandwijk. The next morning he sees the same pirate ship stranded in the street. The boy returns home and tries to convince his parents that there are pirates in town. Not everyone in the neighborhood is happy with the arrival of the Donderbus pirate family and neighbor Daandels tries to get the other neighbors to scare them to send them away. Unexpectedly, however, Bony Krelis, a long-time enemy of the pirates, comes to Daandels’ help. Coexistence looks complicated but not impossible, thanks above all to the actions of the little girls and boys of the town.
