Summer, 1943. Tuur and Lambert have been friends since childhood. They know the area around their village in the Limburg countryside like the back of their hands (from the farm of Lambert’s father - who is also the mayor - to the mysterious caverns). The war, however, does not spare their tranquil life. Tuur’s parents collaborate with the Resistance while the members of Lambert’s family belong to the Dutch National Socialist Party, which upholds the Nazi occupiers. One day in the boys’ class unexpectedly arrives a new girl from another area. Her name is Maartje and she has a secret that she tells only to Tuur. The two friends wind up separating and Tuur must make an important decision that will mark his future.
