SHANA - THE WOLF'S MUSIC

2014

Shana, a 12-year-old violin virtuoso, lives with her father on a Native American reservation in Canada. Her mother is dead and she finds it impossible to get past her grief. She communicates incessantly with her dead parent, attaching letters to her on the totem pole. A mysterious white wolf is constantly in her footsteps. Through time her teacher manages to win her trust and to enroll her in a music school in Vancouver, in a single stroke thus breaching a triple isolation: personal, social and racial.

Shana thus enters a new stage of life: now she can finally let go of her mother who throughout the film has watched over her in the guise of the white wolf, because, as her teacher explains, the spirits of the dead often show themselves to humans in animal form.
