December 1942, during the Second World War, four children on the run. Sarah and Daniel are Jews in the process of being deported, but they hide in Otto and Gerda's cellar until they are discovered and their parents are arrested. They must reach faraway and neutral Sweden and their journey involves several challenges including maintaining a relationship of mutual loyalty. The film is partly based on a real-life story told in a 2012 novel by Maja Lunde.
