Antonia and Massimo have been married for fifteen years. Their marriage is a happy one until Massimo is killed in a traffic accident. Antonia shuts herself up in her own pain, cared for by her mother and her Philippine maid. But one day she discovers the dedication on the back of a painting, revealing that her husband had had a lover for seven years. This forces her to go out and start a series of investigations. She manages to find the building and the apartment the gift was sent from. The name on the apartment is Mariani, and so of course she looks for a Miss Mariani. But after a number of red herrings thrown in her way by the colourful community of gays and transvestites who live in the apartment, she discovers the truth: her husband's lover was a man, Michele.
