Back to the 1980s. Civil war is raging in El Salvador. The government army and the guerrillas fight without pause. The government starts recruiting children by kidnapping them from villages. Chava, 11, suddenly becomes the man of the house when his father leaves the family and his uncle joins the rebels. In one year he too will be drafted. Chava falls in love with his classmate  Cristina  Maria  as  the  war  rages ever closer. With his mother's support alone and a radio broadcast calling for hope, Chava manages to preserve his love of life.
