Mona and the rest of her seven–member Kurdish family have fled Syria and are now in Berlin’s Wedding neighborhood where Mona is sent to a middle school where 90 percent of the students are “foreigners.” Chaos reigns in the school. Most of the teachers are having nervous breakdowns and the level of frustration among the pu-pils is growing by the day. Mona feels it, too. In her homeland, she often played soccer in the streets with her classmates. She misses her home, her friends and especially her aunt Helin, a fighter, who always support-ed her passion for the sport. Mona barely speaks German. One day a teacher, Mr. Che, recognizes her special talent and se-lects her for the girls’ team. But this well– meaning gesture will not make things any easier.
